"Please bake this again..." This was what I was told immediately when the last piece of these slices went into a happily-munching mouth.
These slices are so easy to make and very delicious. I was surprised that these slices are so yummy because this recipe is a very plain and simple one which is from the back of a packet of flaked almonds.
Update on 11 Oct 2016:
Gosh! I can't believe that the last time that I have baked these "Please bake this again..." honey almond slices was 2011!!! This time, I must bake these again!!! And also, I must bake these more often!!! LOL!
Needless to say much, these slices are extremely easy to bake and they are very addictive to eat. I know. I know. You might say that they are loaded with butter but please do not substitute the full amount of butter with anything less or "healthy" because these slices without the full amount of butter is never the same!!!

11 Oct 2016: Here's the updated recipe that is adapted from Freshlife
Make one 20 cm x 20 cm or one 15 cm x 25 cm
For the base:
70g butter, melted
50g (1/4 cup) light brown sugar
100g (2/3 cup) plain / all purpose flour
50g (1/2 cup) almond meal / finely ground almond
For the almond topping:
80g butter
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp honey
70g (1 cup) flaked almonds
Preheat oven to 170°C / 335°F. Line the bottom and sides of one 20 cm square or one 15 x 25 cm slice pan with baking paper, leaving an overhang on two sides for easy removal of slice after baking.
In a large bowl, combine all base ingredients. Press into the prepared pan and bake for 12 mins or until it is slight set and light brown. Set aside to cool slightly.
While waiting for the base to cool, prepare the almond topping. Combine butter, salt and honey in a small saucepan and use a low heat to melt and cook the mixture for about 3 mins until the melted butter looks a little cloudy but do not burn the butter. Stir through flaked almonds and spread the warm topping evenly over the base.
Bake for 25 mins or until deep golden brown. Allow to cool in the pan until it is completely cooled and set. Remove from the pan. Slice into squares and serve.
Happy Baking

ReplyDeleteThese slices are beyond delicious. I am a huge butter fan, and this is just heaven. I bake this with salted butter (never understand why most recipes say to use unsalted butter) and it just tastes even better. Thank you for this lovely recipe.
ReplyDeleteSo happy I happened upon this recipe. I've made these several times already and they are perfect every time. Not too sweet and oh so delicious!
