It is a drink made from ground almonds. It is animal friendly and a great substitute for dairy milk. Hence, it is often consumed by vegan and people who can't drink milk.
I'm neither a vegan nor a person who can't drink milk. ... but I like to explore and enjoy the unique taste of almond milk. I have found several interesting ways of enjoying almond milk... and I enjoyed it the most when I drank it with dates!!!

Slurp and burp...
YES that this drink can be a "fast food" but not the greasy kind.
YES that this drink can be a liquid food as you can feel full after drinking this drink.
YES that this drink can be an energy fueling food as it can also boost your energy level.
YES that this drink has no added sugar as all the sweetness come from the fresh dates.
YES that this drink is 100% vegan food and tummy friendly as it contains only almonds, dates including fibers!
YES that this drink is smoothie-like being thick, creamy and yummy!!!
Is this drink so good??? YES!!!
Then, don't wait... Start making it now!!!
Here's the recipe from Donna Hay magazine/Issue 80 Apr/May 2015 issue.
Place 1 1 /2 cup (375ml) unsweetened* almond milk and 4 fresh pitted dates in a blender. Blend until smooth and chill. Pour into glasses to serve. Serves 2.
*If you use the sweetened kind of almond milk, the drink will be too sweet!
Besides this drink, there are also two other recipes (as shown below) in the same Donna Hay magazine that uses other ingredients to "spice" or "jazz" up almond milk but I reckon that none of them is as good as this date and almond milk.
However, if you are interested, these are the recipes...
Place 1 1/2 cup (375ml) sweetened** almond milk, 1 tbsp raw cacao and 1 tbsp honey in a blender and blend until smooth. Chill and pour into glasses to serve. Serves 2.
Remark: My son and I can't stop comparing this drink with the traditional chocolate milk and so if we are given a choice, we will choose to drink the traditional chocolate milk. Sorry!
Spiced Almond Milk
Place 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground ginger and 1/2 tsp vanilla paste in a small jug. Top with 1 1/2 cup (375ml sweetened** almond milk and stir until well combined. Chill and pour into glasses to serve. Serves 2.
Remark: This spiced almond milk is nice but it is just plain nice to me. Nothing exceptionally special.
**For these recipes, you have to use the sweetened kind of almond milk. If not, the drink will be too bland for taste.

I have tried adding spices into almond milk... |

... but the spiced almond milk is never as good as the date one! |
I hope that you will have fun making your favourite almond milk drink as I really did!!!
